Imported books, the bundled dictionaries and your reading records work locally. Choose a folder in iCloud Drive for backups, or export a backup file to keep yourself.
Some actions need a connection: downloading a book, syncing a cloud backup, or using optional text repair. Text repair sends selected passages to a processing service. Ordinary offline reading doesn’t need that step.

What does Readcape mean?
Read + cape: a reader’s cape. A little space of your own, and an invitation to step into another world through a book.
Is this for English beginners?
It’s designed for learners who can already follow some English and want to read real books and articles with support. It doesn’t replace a structured beginner course.
Can I bring my own books?
Yes. Import EPUB books and text from Files, including iCloud Drive, or download from a URL. Use files you’re entitled to read. Encrypted or DRM-protected books aren’t supported.
How does “known” work?
Looking up a word marks it unknown unless you mark it known. As you finish reading a page or article, eligible words you read without looking up are recorded as known. This is a record of your reading, not a certified vocabulary test. Different forms of a word are grouped where possible.
Do I need an internet connection?
Not for ordinary reading of imported content or the bundled dictionaries. URL downloads, iCloud syncing and optional text repair need a connection.
Which devices can I use?
The app is being developed for iPhone and iPad. There isn’t a public App Store or TestFlight download available on this site yet.
Is this a speed-reading app?
The aim is comfortable, sustained reading and useful vocabulary review. We don’t promise a particular reading speed or language level.
